Summary

A regeneration project that will target The Lace Market Square in Nottingham city centre. The multi-million pound development was completed in 2007, and has since stood unused. Its desolation has had a negative effect on the surrounding community and local businesses, causing further closures and encouraging crime. I propose to open the magnificent central building as a shop to showcase new talented designers and independent design-focused retailers, for a period of 3 – 4 months. The project will host workshops, lectures and events for the local community, and will also hold discussions and think tanks in its café area.

This is what Nottingham needs, also a project that if proved successful, can be transfered to other cities. Young designers need help getting on the ladder, there really isn't enough in place at the moment to ensure that they can pursue their talents on a commercial level. I hope bobby is successful, I believe this is a winning idea, and one which is capable of growing into something far more permanent.

This is much needed, not only for Nottingham designers and artists to have a showcase but for that area in general. I witnessed all the hard work that Fiona Heron put into the design of The Lace Market Square and it makes me so sad to see that area so unused and abused. Its a creative area anyway with NCN arts college and Debbie Bryans design shop just round the corner, having something big like this to give the area a voice will mean so so much to the businesses in the area and to fellow creati
