Summary

We match university students who are looking for accommodation with older people who would like a home-sharer. The older person would let the student live in a spare room in return for help with household chores. The older person feels more secure at night and enjoys having company in the house, while the student has an interesting experience and saves approximately £5 000 each year in rent. This scheme will help increase understanding between generations, as well as building links within the community.

I really connect with this idea. It certainly is breaking down barriers and original. can i ask what plans you have for each group to really learn from one another as opposed to it being a mere lodging experience? Well donexxx

Huge potential, with heightened demand - students with less access to funds, and ageing population. It looks like you have a strong insight into the problems facing the broader community. Tapping into the right community organisations from the beginning will be the biggest early hurdle. Good luck.

The idea is excellent. The young person might even have a chance to learn something they perhaps missed at home, how useful!

This is a great idea. Im excited about the potential for community-building but also the opportunity it creates for students from developing countries to cut the costs of studying in the UK - well done and good luck!

What kind of a contract will be in place to make sure that they both respect each other? Will there be training beforehand on how to improve relations and deal with conflict? It sounds like a great idea, though!

Home-sharing schemes between older people and students do work in France and Spain, so we hope that older people will want to participate. Ideally we will partner up with an organisation who work with older people, in order to gain trust and support. Another alternative is initially only to target students training to be doctors or nurses. Although, this would mean less students could get involved, it would be easier to build trust.

Very original, and interesting. and i can see how it would create unity. Do you have an idea about how forthcoming older people will be about sharing their homes?
