Summary
To build community through putting on a bunch of events run entirely by young people. These would serve to break down the negative view of young people (one of the biggest barriers to bringing communities together), and help everyone in our local community have a safe way to get to know each other. We will invite lots of local people to every event so that they can develop strong ties with the people who live near them, and will aim to get the same set of people to each event so that real friendships can be made.

Great idea, it is difficult to get to know your neighbours so a series of events where people can regularly get together and be in a friendly and fun environment will facilitate the forming of relationships without it being threatening.

Such a simple idea, requiring comparatively minor resources, could re-establish trust between increasingly alienated sections of society. Being based on building real relationships that continue outside of an event gives me hope that the good old days are yet to come! Best wishes Robyn.

An inspired and creative way to bring the community together. Young people are to be encouraged and guided - not feared nor despised. They are our future; a future that will not flourish unless they do.

Young People have been seen as the problem in society for too long, it's time that they are seen as the future of society, not it's downfall

This is a genuinely inclusive and youth-led project which will empower young people and increase trust in the community, in an area where more opportunities are needed. This project would be a worthy winner!

I was lucky enough to be at the last few Switch ID events and it was so great seeing young people out there interacting in a really positive way in the community alongside the police and families. Hope you have lots more opportunities to do similar activities in the future.

I love the sound of this, not only should it help change the perceptions of young but in inviting lots of local people should also help create a sense of community which is much needed here. Well done Robyn for a great initiative.

As a mum who lives locally and has 3 teenage boys, what a fantastic idea. It's so important that the good things that happen in our community get noticed. Keep up the good work, this is making a real difference and my sons love being involved.

A very worthy cause & idea; the negative perceptions of young people are so destructive, as well as being inaccurate and unfair.
22-Oct-2009 8.28AM Nathan Says...
This looks like a great idea. It will give young people something to do and works against the negative image of young people. Good work!
22-Oct-2009 8.01AM Mr Lynn Coles Says...
This is a fantastic community-focused initiative which deserves true recognition. The reputations of too many responsible young people in our communities are affected by those who are irresponsible and do coause trouble. It's an unfair generalisation and this initiative will give those who have the right heart, approach to life and attitude the opportunity to demonstrate a different way of life.
Enabling them to pursue this project through Big Challenge funding would not only help to change othe

As a young person and someone is very interested in the legal system, I know how important it is for young people to have activities to do. It is very important to allowed young people to interact with each other and see that there are many different things that they can become involved in.
21-Oct-2009 10.41PM Elspeth Paisley Says...
Building real friendships where people can begin to see others as real people rather than labeled anonomous groups breaks down barriers in a way that 'services' never can. I think this idea is great - young people putting on events for the whole community to get involved in, with the aim of building friendship at the heart.
