YLT member: Bee Ali I’m Bee, a student from Newcastle.

I’d been looking for a volunteering opportunity in my local area when I stumbled across Big Challenge. What instantly struck me was its ingenuity: it empowers young people to promote solutions to issues through social entrepreneurship. The Youth Leadership Team benefits from meeting a diverse range of people from all walks of life, contributing to the varied knowledge and experiences of the team, which makes a balanced and more socially aware group. Running in its last year, we want to make sure The Challenge ends with the big bang it deserves!

After taking part in the Global Xchange and Youth Yatra Action for Change programmes I volunteer as a trainer and representative for Concordia UK and the Alliance for European Voluntary Service Organisations. Big Challenge is a great way to give young people a chance to be creative and forward thinking which is what motivated me to be part of the Youth Leadership Team. Looking forward to supporting some great new projects for the community and having a little fun along the way!

In 2008, I had the opportunity to visit families living in rural villages in Tanzania. It was then that I realized how fortunate we are to be living in a democracy. Young people in less developed countries do not get a say in their society, so I want to make the most of my opportunity and take a lead in voicing the opinions of young people - the youth of today are the leaders of tomorrow. I'm looking forward to working with the Youth Leadership Team and gaining skills and making friends along the way.
